The Scent

Why we made this sea salt candle

"Gab-i sa baybay" is Hiligaynon for "night at the beach" — Villa or Guimbal after sunset, when the crowd thins and the sea turns loud. This sea salt candle is that hour in our biggest jar.

Sea salt and cool ozone sit on top; driftwood and cedar hold the base, like smoke from someone's beach fire two coves away. It's an ocean scent without being "aquatic cologne," woody without being a barbershop.

We pour it only in the 12 oz size because it's a long-evening candle — 60 to 65 hours of burn for storm-watching, late work nights, and everyone who misses the sea on weekdays.

Long burns, done right

The 12 oz jar is built for long evenings, and it asks one thing in return: a patient first burn. Give Gab-i sa Baybay close to three hours on its first light so the melt pool reaches the glass all the way around — wax has memory, and that first pool sets the pattern for all 60–65 hours. After that, trim to 5 mm, cap sessions at four hours, and snuff rather than blow. The full routine is in Candle Care 101; the big jar makes the best brush holder in the house afterwards, or earns ₱20 off when you return it.

Questions

Gab-i sa Baybay sea salt candle: FAQ

How long does Gab-i sa Baybay burn?

About 60 to 65 hours. It's our biggest jar at 12 oz (330 g), made for long evenings and bigger rooms.

What does a sea salt candle smell like?

Salty sea air over driftwood and cedar: fresh at first, then woody and warm. Think of the beach after sunset rather than a bottle of sunscreen.

Is a 12 oz candle too strong for a small room?

In a small bedroom, burn it for an hour or two with the door open. It really shines in a sala, a dining area or a guest room.
