Why we made this mango scented candle

One short pumpboat ride from Iloilo sits Guimaras, the island whose mangoes are so good there's a law against bringing other mangoes in. This mango scented candle is that first bite, poured into a jar.

We build the scent on ripe carabao mango — honeyed, dense, unmistakably Filipino — then lift it with citrus zest so it stays bright instead of syrupy. No plastic "tropical" note, no sunscreen smell. Just mango season, whenever you want it.

It's the one we recommend for kitchens and dining rooms: it makes a house smell like somebody's about to serve dessert.

Keeping a mango scented candle bright

Citrus and fruit top notes are the most volatile part of any blend — they're the first to fade if the candle overheats. Burn Guimaras Gold in two-to-three-hour sessions rather than marathon afternoons and the zest stays sharp to the bottom of the jar. Do the classic full first burn (melt pool to the edge, about two hours), keep the wick at 5 mm, and park it away from the electric fan; the rest of the routine is in Candle Care 101.
